# payback for coding agents

payback pays people for coding-agent sessions on open-source repositories. If a person asks you to help them upload past sessions, use the CLI; there is no agent-specific command any more.

1. `payback status` — is this machine signed in, and what is already in review.
2. `payback upload --all` — queues every past session that qualifies (public GitHub repository, no secrets, not already in review) for review in the background. `payback upload` without `--all` opens an interactive picker, which needs a terminal; do not run it from a non-interactive session.
3. `payback upload <file> [--repo owner/name]` — one transcript from any supported agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI, Cline, Pi, OpenCode, aider). The repository is read from the session; pass `--repo` if its checkout is gone.
4. `payback allow` — which repositories are recorded. `payback allow public` (the default) covers every public GitHub repository; `payback allow owner/name` names one; `payback off` inside a repository excludes it for good.

Never upload a session the person has not asked you to, never edit transcripts to remove secrets (a session with secrets is simply not uploaded), and never change the allow list without being asked. Docs: https://docs.payback.sh
